Mountain Manners Crested Butte

Who We Are

Mountain Manners partners with our sponsoring organization, Coldharbour Institute in Gunnison, to promote exemplary land management practices. We are a team of outdoor enthusiasts who want to help others lessen their impacts on trails and in the backcountry.

What We Do

Our mission is to help trail and backcountry users understand how they can be good outdoor stewards and we do it by being friendly and respectful.

The Mountain Manners Stewardship Program educates visitors to the Gunnison Valley about environmental stewardship and responsible outdoor etiquette. Our volunteer team of "Peak Protectors"  spends time at trailheads and on trails sharing good info and good vibes with our visitors.

We have four goals for Summer 2018:

  1. Get Peak Protectors on trails and at trailheads educating locals and visitors about Mountain Manners.
  2. Grow our corps of Peak Protector Volunteers.
  3. Implement a buddy system to pair an experienced Peak Protector with a newbie. It's a great way to help new volunteers feel comfortable, create more community, and find new hiking partners.
  4. Make it easier to report your monthly Peak Protector work. Metrics are critical to help us fundraise for future programs.

About Us

On Wednesday, June 27, from 6-8 pm at Sunset Hall in CB South  (349 Teocalli Road), we're holding a Mountain Manners Kick-Off Meeting to say THANK YOU for all you did last year, reviewing the Peak Protectors program and your role, handing out supplies, discussing the buddy system, welcoming newcomers, and reviewing the reporting process. Oh, and of course we will have snacks and beverages! Chocolate...wine...beer? You bet!

Please RSVP by Tuesday, June 26, to info@mountainmanners.org.
